Drawing a lace implies precision and attention to detail. In this tutorial, we will show you how to proceed, giving you some useful tips about it. Before diving into the graphical representation, you need to consider some fundamental factors. Meanwhile, you have to decide on the size of the lace. Of course, it all depends on the support to which you have to apply it and on the type of yarn used. Another element not to be underestimated is the workmanship. Depending on the technique used, you will need to design a suitable lace for your needs. Meanwhile, read the suggestions given in the steps of this guide to learn how to draw a lace.
Necessary
- CROCHET: squared paper, pencil, eraser
- TOMBOLO AND MACRAME ‘: cardboard, pencil, rubber, pins
- CHIACCHIERINO: A4 or squared sheet, pencil, eraser, accurate calculation of knots during the sample processing
If you want to design a lace to crochet, you must carefully define the stitches to use. However, on a sheet of paper, preferably checked, draw the representation of the lace and use symbols to distinguish the low stitch from the high one, and detail everything in a legend. In this way, you will be greatly facilitated during processing. Once the design is complete, take the appropriate yarn and make a sample of the lace. By doing so, you can correct any imperfections and thus you can consider the size and then continue.
To make a more refined lace, and then draw a bobbin or macrame lace, use fairly strong cardboard and depict the subject you want, being careful to define the details well. Use a pencil and draw light lines, so you can easily correct if you make a mistake then, define the edges with a thin-tipped marker.
Apply the cardboard on the appropriate work cushion and proceed with the execution of the lace. As you work, stop the weave on the support, pinning it. Remember that the thinner the thread, the lighter the weave will be.
At this point, drawing tatting lace is a slightly more complex procedure. As we all know, the tatting process consists of a succession of small knots, which form the lace and, if you do not carefully evaluate the number of knots necessary, the lace could be excessively tight and rigid. In this case, therefore, we advise you to make a sketch of the lace on the sheet, so as to define its shape. Then, proceed to the realization of a sample, so as to be able to write down the necessary number of nodes as you go.
Never forget:
When representing the lace, carefully define the type of stitches to use and pay attention to the size of the yarn. The more detailed the scheme, the easier it will be to execute.
