One of the greatest dancers to ever don the glitz, and the sequins of the dance floor has to be Shirley Ballas. She’s pretty much-won everything there is to win in the world of Latin and ballroom dancing. It’s the reason why she was asked to be the head judge of Strictly Come Dancing replacing the much loved Len Goodman. It is Shirley who casts the deciding vote should there be a tie. If you want to win Strictly the first thing she’ll tell you is to get some practice and a Salsa Classes London way with rvdance.co.uk/dance-classes-london/salsa-classes-london/ is by far one of the best ways to do it.
Shirley would dominate the class of Latin, with her husband and dance partner, Corky. So much so she became known as the Queen of Latin. Nothing and no one could touch the level of skill and achievement during the 1980s and 1990s as that of the Ballas couple. Shirley has had her problems with her partners in the past. This has not stopped her from being successful. Her first marriage to Sammy Stopford, also her dance partner, saw them win Blackpool in 1983.
She met and married Corky Ballas in 1985. They then went on to storm the Latin world with blistering and scorching routines that were perfect. It is a shame that at the time Ballroom and Latin were not viewed in the same light as they are now, or were in the 1970’s and 80’s, otherwise the couple would have surely been a household name.
